Social media icons are a great way to allow readers to connect to you on a more personal level. And they're literally a piece o' cake to make when you have the right tools. The first thing you need to know is where to find the little symbols. They're actually called silhouettes. And you can find them at dozens of sites, but I like this site in particular:
Social Media Silhouettes Simply save the images you like to your desktop and you're ready to roll.
In Picmonkey, open your blank canvas image. Resize the image to the size of your sidebar. For mine, I used 300 x 300, but it is dependent on the size of your sidebar.
Go to overlays, and let your creative juices flow. You can use circles, shapes, or simple text to create your icons. Check out some other blogs for inspiration if you like. Here are a few examples that I've created:
Stay in overlays, and at the top click on "Your Own". Upload the silhouettes that you saved to your desktop. Place them inside of the icons.
Crop your image down. SAVE to your desktop. Upload to a host site (Photobucket.com) and use image-maps.com to create your image map that we talked about in THIS POST. Get the code and paste into a html gadget in your sidebar.
Bam. You're done. That's all there is to it.
Let me know if you have questions!!
